Superstar K has a new 10 second rule
theSeoulite is about get into the new eighth season of Superstar K! The first episode debuted last Thursday and I caught the rerun on Sunday. But don't call it Superstar K8, the producers ditched numbering by season and have went with Superstar K 2016! And they're probably signaling that a new producer is at the helm. This will be the first season that Signal Entertainment Group will be producing. They are the team behind the successful but creepy Produce 101 show where they made 101 girls compete in a survival competition to become one girl group. Reportedly none of the 101 girls got paid for their efforts. Just check out how creepy it is.
Anyhow, from its first episode, Superstar K 2016 already has shown that it has got some real talent lined up for us to watch. Those who like a good vocalist and people who can SING with SOUL need to watch (Thursday nights at 9:40PM Korea time).
The biggest draw? The new 10 SECOND RULE. There's a countdown clock that starts at 20 seconds. If no judge pushes the button in front of them, then that's it. Audition is over. But each judge can push the button to hear 10 more seconds. So as someone is totally rocking it, you will see the judges ping for more time. Each judge can only push the button 3 times. But that won't stop some judges reaching over to another judge's button to keep the artist singing.
Which judges drew my attention? Gummi, Ailee, Kim Bum-soo and that songwriter guy that said since he's written over 400 songs (and many of them super hits) he knows that one of the contestants has written a hit song.
Best of luck to all the contestants! There is so much talent in Korea! And thank you for making that 10 second button! Hope Superstar K 2016 is the best one yet!
