She wants her child back
North Korean refugee women are often human trafficked to China where they face abuse even if they escape sexually exploitative jobs by getting sold as brides to Chinese men. According to its latest report on women who escape the North Korean regime, the Associated Press says some of these North Korean women are now trying to reclaim their children after fleeing China.
Of course the report points out not all cases of arranged marriages end badly. But many have escaped these circumstances either surreptitiously or by telling their husbands that they will go to South Korea to earn money to send back.
Read the report to see how much they were sold for, why they think they would be safer in a brokered marriage, and what plans they have for high-level lobbying to get their children back.
