Malaysian Muslim Crossover Hip Hop Star to Make Korean Debut in Hongdae

Malaysian Muslim Crossover Hip Hop Star to Make Korean Debut in Hongdae

SEOUL - Popular Malaysian singer/songwriter Yuna will be performing in Seoul, South Korea on December 11, 2016 as part the Asia leg of her “Chapters” tour. Presented by Planet Hustle association with Gigguide.Korea and online partner Tourbrat, the show will take place at V-Hall in the Hongdae neighborhood of Seoul. Discount early bird tickets are available from October 24 at tourbrat.com.

This will be Yuna’s very first performance in Korea. As the only Malaysian to cross over into global pop stardom (and an observant Muslim to boot), Yuna is used to transcending expectations - and she will do so again at the Seoul stop of the Asia leg of her “Chapters” world tour. Yuna began writing songs at the age of 14, soon taught herself to play guitar, and by 2006, in need of a creative outlet while attending law school, performed for an audience for the first time.

Yuna offered her music on her MySpace page, which went on to net over one million plays. This online success tipped off the Indie-Pop label/management company to her music, which led to her signing with the Fader label. Yuna is the only Malaysian artist to have charted in the top ten of any Billboard chart with her current album, “Chapters.”

Her recent hit “Crush” featuring Usher has reached 15 million views on YouTube and was her first song to gain heavy radio rotation in the United States. “I grew up listening to Usher - ‘Confessions’ is one of my favorite songs,” Yuna says. “Having my musical hero on this song was amazing enough, but he really gave his all.” Warming up for Yuna will be young Korean R & B singer Jeebanoff, and American hip-hop DJ and rapper Pinnacle TheHustler.

This event furthers a mission shared by Planet Hustle, Gigguide.Korea, and Tourbrat alike - meaningful cultural exchange in Korea “When the idea of Yuna in Korea came up, we immediately got to work researching her local fandom and were pleased to see that there is high demand among her Korean fans,” says Tourbrat CEO Gabe Salgado. “That’s when we decided to bring Planet Hustle and Gigguide.Korea together to rock this show and sell tickets through the Tourbrat platform.”

Tourbrat is an event planning and ticketing platform, currently in private beta, which features events selected by invitation only.
